Emma: I’d do it again if I could

Emma donated her kidney to a stranger eight years ago after first seeing a story about non-directed donation on TV four years previously.

She says: “I decided at Christmas time in 2015 that I would make an appointment to see my local Transplant Team at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford. The team there were amazing and supported me every step of the way.

“After months of assessments and tests, I was given the go-ahead to proceed with the donation and less than a month later I donated my left kidney to an anonymous recipient.”

Emma considers the donation process as a “great life experience” and says that she was happy to help someone who needed the kidney more than she did. In fact, she states: “I’d do it again if I could!”

Emma’s main words of advice are “do your research and definitely speak to your local transplant team”
