Georgia is a transplant nurse and a runner living in Newcastle and she donated a kidney to someone she didn’t know two years ago. She recently took part in the World Transplant Games in Dresden, where she became world champion in the 5k road race. She has also fundraised for our charity by competing in an Ultra Marathon, where she ran 70 miles over just 26 hours!
She says: “The only thing I remember about the operation is the cannula going in while I chatted to the anaesthetist. A few hours after returning to the ward, I got up and did a few laps of the ward!
“I have gained so many friends from taking part in the transplant games as a living donor competitor! They have changed my life for the better and reaffirmed that donating helps save lives.”
“If you are able to become a living donor, I would thoroughly recommend it – it’s a few weeks of your life to transform someone else’s”.
